CSA 2023 week 17

CSA 2023 week 17 and earlier: summer!

You know how it goes – summer hits with full force, and suddenly you’re too busy to do anything. Of course that happened, and so this post will cover CSA 2023 week 17 and earlier: weeks earlier. I know some of you like to see what the CSA brings us every week. (Click on any photo if you’d like to see it in a larger format)

Just LOOK at all that fantastic produce! Our farmers at Beaverland Farms bring us the very best stuff, no matter the weather. During this past month or so we’ve had horrible storms, and large branches and a whole tree fell on the farm. Meanwhile, they’re repairing the damage, and carrying on, and the veggies just keep on coming.

This past week we brought home:

  • mixed lettuces
  • 3 gloriously ripe tomatoes
  • pattypan squash
  • shishito peppers
  • garlic
  • kohlrabi
  • a mess of fresh basil

I’ve already made both pesto and tomato gratin; those are summer standbys for us. Looking back, last week’s box had tiny Concord grapes (delicious!) and two little eggplants. Our experimental  Japanese miso-coated eggplant will definitely be repeated soon. Other favorites from the last month’s boxes have included cherry tomatoes, pea shoots, tiny kohlrabi, Swiss chard, and sweet carrots.

Here are some other ideas for summer vegetables:

Who knows what will be in the box next week? I’m predicting more tomatoes – this is the season for them, and there are never too many tomatoes.
