CSA week 16: goodbye, tomatoes

City Commons CSA week 16

City Commons CSA week 16There’s a definite shift in my CSA box this week. We’re leaving summer behind! Goodbye, summer tomatoes. Hello, squash, fennel, and cool weather crops.

Today’s box contains Butternut squash, fennel, radishes, Italian flat-leafed parsley, dried black beans, red and green spicy peppers, mixed greens, Swiss chard, and a few small tomatoes. I am already thinking of how to use these:

And – of course – those precious last tomatoes, sliced, with salt.

  1. What a lovely basket! The dried black beans are especially fun and different. I love when the winter squashes come into season.
