CSA week 8 brings fresh corn! This is exciting; I thought that the corn wasn’t at all ready yet. Naturally we cooked and ate it the night we brought it home – no sense in letting good corn sit around.
I miss the radishes, but it’s good to see the warm weather produce coming in:
- red leaf lettuce
- kohlrabi
- cucumbers
- zucchini
- yellow pattypan squash
- wax (yellow) beans
- beets
- lots of corn
Those yellow beans are just begging to be combined with last week’s pesto, and that’s also a possibility for the zucchini (see this intriguing recipe from Smitten Kitchen). I prefer kohlrabi raw – in thin sticks in a salad with the lettuce and cucumbers, or perhaps in thicker slabs dipped in hummus or garlic scape pesto. The beets might end up in a salad, or perhaps I’ll use them in a red, red smoothie.
