It’s CSA week 5 – still June, though just barely – and my farmer at Vanhoutte Farms surprised me. This week’s box held sugar snap peas and snow peas, and I thought that the hot weather spelled the end of the pea distributions. I’m happy to be wrong, though, these taste great.
In addition to the peas, our box held:
- looseleaf lettuce
- beets
- turnips
- a big bunch of basil
- green zucchini
- yellow summer squash
- green and yellow pattypan squash
- cucumbers
- green onions
- gloriously huge radishes
- sweet new carrots
There’s another batch of pesto coming from this box; I may freeze it in ice cube trays, so useful. The beets will go into this beet and feta salad, and those zucchini will be stuffed with lamb and feta and tomatoes – picture and post coming on that one, I promise. Squash-a-palooza may mean I pull out my secret weapon: hidden zucchini chocolate cake.
