Most of the last week has been hot and sticky, so my prediction was correct: no more peas, because peas hate the heat. In CSA week 4, the greens are shifting, too, away from the tender early spring cool weather types, to the more robust (and tough, sometimes bitter) greens.
Today’s box contains:
- collard greens
- romaine
- red looseleaf lettuce
- ‘dinosaur’ kale
- broccoli
- green and yellow zucchini
- green onions
- fresh garlic
- big beautiful radishes
I may pickle some of those radishes with carrots in a traditional Vietnamese do chua – they are quickly made, and they’re delicious. While I’m thinking in Asian flavors, what about using those green onions to accent udon noodles?
I can use the rest of last week’s pesto with the broccoli, that will make a nice pasta dish. I might stuff the zucchini with lamb, rice, and tomatoes. And of course there will be lovely crunchy crispy salads.
