CSA 2022 week 17: tomatoes, peaches, ground cherries

CSA 2022 week 17 brings us more summer – in this case, big tomatoes, peaches, and ground cherries. What are ground cherries, I hear you asking: ground cherries are not cherries at all, but a cousin to the tomato. They have very round little fruit inside paper husks, and they taste a bit like a mashup of pineapple and tomato. They’re very good eaten raw, but also can get chopped into a salsa. If there are enough of them, you could make jam. A simple salad with ground cherries and a bit of strong cheese is excellent.

Our farmers at Beaverland Farms have filled our box with more good stuff this week, of course. The box seems to get more full each week. This week’s box brings us:

  • CSA 2022 week 17 distributioncucumbers
  • carrots
  • ground cherries
  • tomatoes
  • shishito peppers
  • salad mix
  • garlic
  • peaches

I think about how I might use all this good stuff while I’m washing and trimming it. Looks like CSA 2022 week 17 hits us at the beginning of a week of milder weather: highs in the low to mid-80s (F), lows in the mid-50s: very nice summer weather. It won’t be too hot to run the oven!

Follow the season with me, and I’ll show off my CSA box of the week, including ideas of how I might use all the good stuff. Feel free to chime in with comments or questions.
