For a few days, we had a hint of cooler weather, and then a return to summer. I take this as the sign that our lovely warm weather will end soon. Our farmers are planting fall crops as well as continuing to harvest summer goodies. This week’s box contained kale, carrots, radishes, green and purple beans, sage, baby greens (trimmings of chard and beet, most likely), red and yellow tomatoes, and peaches.
We have only a few more weeks of tomatoes. Of course I’ll be making tomato gratin as often as possible; there’s no way to eat too much of that. We’re also considering these items on this week’s cooking from the farm share:
- fresh tomato tart
- pasta with sage and browned butter
- quick peach tart
- small batch peach-oolong butter
- late summer minestrone from Aimee at SimpleBites
- carrot ginger soup from Elise at Simply Recipes
- summer slaw with purple cabbage and carrots
