Hello, and Welcome! I’m Maurita Plouff, and I write about cooking and preserving the local harvest in Southeast Michigan. Any recipe you find here is something I have cooked myself, and enjoyed, and think you might like too. I invite you to try the recipes, and leave comments.
About me: I’m a good home cook and a Certified Master Preserver. I owned and operated Madame the Chef Personal Chef Service for 7 years, making my customers (and myself) very happy. Just now I’m cooking for my family and friends.
Where the food comes from: I’ve been a member of various CSAs over the years, most recently Beaverland Farms (website link: https://www.beaverlandfarms.com/ ) in Detroit, Michigan. This means that my produce is grown only 15 miles from my home.
I try to use or preserve all the food I bring home from the farm, which is sometimes a challenge. You’ll be able to tell what’s in season around me by what I post, and from the Local Harvest section of my blog, where I show a photo of the week’s food box from the farm. You might get as inspired as I am!
Where I get the recipes: Oh, goodness, where not? Sometimes it’s from a book or a newspaper clipping or a website, and I will give proper attribution. Sometimes it’s an old family favorite. More often than not it’s something I’ve pulled together from reading several sources, or just plain invented. Think of these recipes as being from my personal recipe binder – I’m sharing with you what we like to eat. We try to eat real food, not processed stuff. We believe in a varied, healthy diet, using real butter, real cream, eggs, lots of green vegetables, and protein from meat, fish, beans, and cheese.
About sponsorship (disclosure): Sometimes a company will send a product to me, and challenge me to do something creative with it. I also work with various brands who may send me review samples. This means that from time to time I am sent some of their equipment to use (and to keep.) The company asks that I use the tools, blog about what I’ve done, and give my honest opinion about their products.
While I am delighted to participate with these sponsors, please understand that the recipes, my opinions, and my ratings are entirely my own, and are never dictated to me. I will always state clearly when I’m using a sponsored item in a post.
Want to be a sponsor? I’m interested in reviewing new products and tools, especially as they fit into the broad categories of cooking, preserving, and eating. I can’t promise I’ll love your product, but I’ll try it, and write an honest review. I can develop recipes using your food item. Take a look at my recipes, and contact me!
